What do Sony BMG look for in applicants?
To work in one of our music divisions (RCA, Columbia, Epic, Syco or Commercial), music must be an important part of your life. You'll need to demonstrate that you have been actively involved in music and have commercial knowledge of what is happening in the industry as well as being a huge consumer of music. You can transfer into the music industry from other media related industries bringing with you different yet complimentary skill sets and knowledge which will add value to our business.

To work in one of the Support functions (Sales, Finance, Legal, IT, Human Resources, Operations or Facilities), whilst prior experience within the music or media industry is an advantage, it is not essential. However, we would expect you to have a strong interest in music and to have researched the industry and the key players within it.

It is important to remember when applying for a role in any of the divisions its more about what you 'can do' rather than what you 'want to do'. Evidence of relevant experience and/or qualifications in the area you are applying for is paramount.

What are the other opportunities at Sony BMG?
The Sony BMG Academy is our newly created intern scheme. Work experience or intern schemes have always been a successful route to bringing talent into the Company. Traditionally, interns in the Company work on an unpaid basis to gain some entry-level experience in the Music and Entertainment Industry. The Academy consists of 4 schemes which run along side each other:

1. Sony BMG Scholarship - collaborative relationship with Music 4 Good/Livity - 2 candidates on a 9 month basis.
2. University affiliated interns - we are working together with various universities to introduce interns to practical experience which compliments their studies - part-time throughout the academic year.
3. Sandwich/placement year - potentially better suited to the support functions, in particular, Finance and IT where industry placements are part of the degree course.
4. Ad hoc - placements of up to 3 month duration to offer candidates a practical insight into the music and entertainment business.

If you are interested in Work Experience please apply via our recruitment website here and enter your application for the Sony BMG Academy, remembering to include your availability dates and department/label of most interest.

Do we have a Graduate Training Scheme?
Unfortunately, we are not currently running a formal Graduate Training Scheme. However we have a number of graduates (under & post) in our business in a variety of roles and collaborate regularly with Universities (see above).
