18/05/2007
Sony BMG Music Entertainment's Commercial Music Group President John Ingrassia today announced the creation of the SONY BMG Masterworks International Repertoire Center (IRC), a new division that will serve as an A&R; and artist development resource for the company's classical divisions around the world. The IRC will oversee the management of SONY BMG's legendary classical catalog, and develop and market new classical artists and releases for a global audience.

"Classical music is a central part of SONY BMG's shared history. The creation of the International Repertoire Center underscores our dedication to the genre, giving it an even more prominent place within the company as we draw on the international potential of our extensive classical catalog, and leverage our A&R; expertise to develop new classical artists and market their works on a worldwide basis," said Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, Chief Executive Officer, Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

Mr. Ingrassia also announced the appointment of Chris Craker to the post of Senior Vice President and General Manager of the International Repertoire Center. Mr. Craker will maintain offices in both New York and London and report to Mr. Ingrassia.

"Chris brings a rich portfolio of experience to his new role, as a record company executive, album producer, A&R; director, and performer across Europe, the U.S. and throughout Asia," said Mr. Ingrassia. "He has an impeccable reputation and an exceptional record of chart successes in classical music as well as with jazz and pop projects. I'm thrilled that someone with his passion, knowledge and skills will be guiding the IRC as we identify key priority classical artists with global appeal, and extend their reach to territories around the world," said Mr. Ingrassia.

Most recently Mr. Craker served as Head of Classics for Sony BMG Music Entertainment's UK operation, since 2005. During his nearly 20 years in the record business, Mr. Craker has produced more than four hundred classical music and jazz discs. He has worked with many of the world's finest orchestras, from the London Symphony to the New York Philharmonic, as well as with celebrated artists such as John Williams, Kiri te Kanawa, Michael Brecker and Charlie Watts. Mr. Craker is also a best selling author of three books on classical music, jazz and opera that are available in seven languages worldwide. Before devoting his time to the record industry, he was one of the leading clarinetists in the UK.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Craker said, "It is a tremendous opportunity to lead Sony BMG's International Repertoire Center. With an experienced and dedicated international staff and great support from the Commercial Music Group, we are uniquely positioned to build international audiences for our artists. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues at Sony BMG Masterworks, as well as at our other operations around the world, as we present the finest classical music to both longstanding fans and new audiences."

In addition, Mr. Craker made a number of key appointments, including naming Tim Schumacher to the post of Senior Director of Marketing, International, and Silke Zimmermann to the post of Director of Promotions, International.
